IELTS Vocabulary FAQs
-
How many words do I need for IELTS 7.0?
There isn’t a fixed number. Band 7 depends on accurate, flexible vocabulary and paraphrasing. Focus on high-frequency topic words, collocations, and correct usage in sentences.
-
What vocabulary is best for Writing Task 2?
Prioritise topic vocabulary, linking phrases (however, therefore), and cause/effect language. Accuracy and natural collocations matter more than “big” words.
-
How do I learn collocations?
Learn words in chunks (e.g., “pose a threat”, “make progress”). Save one collocation + one example sentence, then test yourself with recall.
-
Should I memorize word lists?
Memorising helps only if you practise usage. Learn meaning + one collocation + one example, use it in your own sentence, then review later.
-
How to avoid repeating words in essays?
Use paraphrases, category words, and vary sentence structure. Build small synonym sets for common Task 2 words and practise swapping them safely.
